Let me get this off my chest first: The Arctic Monkeys share exactly two common traits with The Beatles and Oasis - They're all British, and they're all rock bands. The first album from Sheffield-based rockers, Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was the fastest selling debut album in UK chart history.

Released in 2006, the Arctic Monkeys' debut album was fairly typical of the 'good' (in my opinion) music that was in the charts at the time. In effect, the group performed a complete run around the industry, avoiding conventional routes toward stardom, which paid off in spades. All of those bands have great albums and are some of my current favorites, but they aren't really traditional "rock" albums per se. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not became the UK's fastest selling debut album, selling more than 360,000 copies in its first week.Breathless, hyperbolic praise was piled upon the Arctic Monkeys and their Bdebut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, an instant phenomenon without peer. The guitar playing, drumming and vocals completely embody that angst which so many teenagers go through.

Yeah, is a surreal, funky, profane, and perversely joyous album, overflowing with casual eclecticism and giddy humour. Especially if you are a fan of the Arctic Monkeys' newer albums as this album tops them all in my opinion.rather, they spent their school days listening to roots manuva, braintax and other stuff on low-life, not to mention lyricist lounge compilations and rawkus records cuts like pharaoh monch. If you enjoy rock/indie music - you will surely love Arctic Monkeys, and this is where it all started. and finally the album closer, a Certain Romance with its opening drum and guitar attack before settling into a perfect UK retro-rock dance groove with a totally different sound, and great lyrics condemning the vapidness and bad behavior of today's youth even as the singer admits he has friends who are the same. If you want to check the colour of the record before you purchase, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. stars out of 5 — “Fashion and hype be damned — this is thrilling, incontrovertible evidence of a major new talent in our midst.

Not only was it good, it was impressive, the whole CD sounded so raw, yet polished, that you would think that the Monkeys had been established for years. As for the band now, they are back with an outstanding new album AM , which might be their best yet.elsewhere, there were grim tales of girls whod ended up on the streets (she dont do major credit cards, i doubt she does receipts sun goes down) and glorious swipes at the rocknroll clones that arose on the back of the great garage rock boom of 2002 (yeah i'd like to tell you all my problems/you're not from new york city, you're from rotherham fake tales of san francisco). All four members of the Arctic Monkeys were a little bit shy of their tenth birthday at the time, a bit young to be sure, but old enough to have Oasis be their first favorite band. Despite their tender years--or perhaps because of them--with 'Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not,' Arctic Monkeys found a new and unique way to chronicle the rushes of youth, and in doing so created a classic take on a stage of life we all experience.
