He recreated the original 8 stripe rainbow flag (colour production of fabric had become a lot more available, than it was in 1978). Whether he hoped the original 8 stripe would become more of a focus moving forward or that it was a special one off is unclear; either way the 6 stripe appeared to be here to stay.
